Fine pair of heavy quality Victorian silver bowls or dishes

    Reference: bowl

This superb pair of Victorian silver dishes were made in London in 1900 and measure 8.5 inches in length by 5.75 inches wide and are 3.5 inches tall, they are decorated with French gadrooning to the oval foot and have fluting to the bottom of the bowl with a central and shaped cartouche to either side with acanthus leaf and scroll detailing and a vacant central roundel and the tops are shaped with acanthus leaf and scrolling and masks interspersed. They are clearly hallmarked to the sides but there is only a ghost of a makers mark but with such quality they may have been made to go another larger piece and may well be why the mark was so lightly struck, they retain most of their original gilding to the inside and under the foot which is a mellow yellow now and the condition is excellent with no problems at all and they weigh a very hefty 41.75 ounces.
