This fantastic George III silver coffee pot was made in Sheffield by James Young and was marked with his makers mark under the base, this was then fully hallmarked in London in 1777 and overstruck by WC. It measures 12.5 inches tall by 9 inches handle to spout and is 4 inches in dia across the base. It is unmistakably Sheffield made in its style and has a bead edge to the base rim and the lid rim with original, beautifully chased and engraved flower and foliage work to the body, foot and lid with a central basket of flowers to either side, it has a lovely cast swan neck spout with acanthus leaf decoration and the original scrolled wooden handle with a shell terminal to the top and a scrolled terminal to the bottom and a very nice drop bead finial to the lid. It is fully and clearly hallmarked under the base and is in exceptional condition, a very elegant pot weighing 31 ounces.
